A national level conference, Innovation in Life Sciences for Sustainable Environment (ILSE 2019) was organised in CHRIST (Deemed to be University) on 20 and 21 February 2019. It was the place of meet for more than 500 life science students, eminent environmentalists and enthusiastic students for two days, which was organised with the view of creating some awareness against the environmental adversaries.

Through the continued discussions and interesting presentations, everyone attending the conference got an idea about the possibilities of reducing the increasing levels of global warming, environmental pollution and other environmental hazards. Thus, as a consequence of the event, we were able to instigate the young minds, to create the much needed awareness.  There were speakers and participants from all around the country, with an estimate of around 400 participants, including around 100 posters and 50 oral presentations. About 35 institutions all around the country were involved, both from north as well as south. In the inaugural ceremony, we had eminent speakers like Uma Shaanker, Padmashree awardee Saalumarada Thimakka and Suresh Heblikar. The ceremony started with the lighting of the lamp and was followed by plenary talks and presentations. There was release of the “Book of abstracts”, a compilation of around 200 abstracts, in the inaugural ceremony, by the eminent environmentalists and speakers. All delegates were felicitated and honoured.

On the second day also, there were many presentations with both poster and oral happening simultaneously. There were numerous judges and there were divisions such as faculty and students and presentations were held accordingly. There was arrangement for lunch and finally in the valedictory ceremony, prizes were distributed by Mr. Jagannath Rao, Deputy Conservator of Forests and Lakes, BBMP, Bangalore. Also, the departmental magazine, Biolink, was released on that day. Altogether, there was a positive atmosphere created at the end of the conference. It was a memorable national conference, bringing thousands of people together, on the platform of environmental sustainability.
